Whimsical Wednesday #04
Or, some cool, magical, and mundane things that caught my eye or other senses this week
Welcome to the fourth installment of Whimsical Wednesday, tarot friends! This is a bi-weekly collection of some cool, magical, and mundane things (some tarot-related, some not) that have caught my eye or other senses and have helped me add pockets of whimsy to my life.
If you missed the previous installment of Whimsical Wednesday, here it is for your perusing pleasure:
Let me know if you also love my whimsical picks for this week. Plus, what would make it onto your list?
1. This book!
I ordered Archive by Sofia Coppola months and months ago and it finally arrived today. I squealed and had a party with Jagger (my dog) as we rushed to open the box. It is an utterly captivating coffee table book of personal photographs and ephemera spanning Coppola’s films between 1999 and 2023, including a few of my personal favorites like Lost in Translation and Somewhere. I’m talking behind the scenes photos of Coppola, her crew, scripts with handwritten notes, and just really moody and beautiful photographs of sets, actors, props, and more. The Priscilla section is to die for and I haven’t even seen that film yet! Have you?
2. These Shoes!
I know we’re supposed to hate ads but my Instagram ones are almost always on point - I don’t know what to tell you! These sun and moon loafers by G.H. Bass (a brand I’ve never shopped at) are so classy with just the perfect touch of whimsy. They definitely made it onto my Pinterest style board.
3. This photo!
This iconic photo of Patrick Swayze- a legend gone too soon - was taken by Mary Ellen Mark for US Weekly’s September 1995 issue. In his interview, Swayze famously declared that he no longer cared what others thought of him. I love everything about this photo: the muscles, the slip dress, the ballet stance (third position if I remember correctly?), the poodle, the yard! What’s your favorite Patrick Swayze movie and why is it Dirty Dancing?
4. These bag charms!
Is anybody else noticing a return to maximalism? Adding these whimsical and fun charms to jingle and jangle on your purse is a sleek minimalist’s nightmare, I imagine. But I’m a big fan of charms. I even dabble in charm-casting with my tarot cards every now and then! Adding charms to bags, planners, keychains, jewelry, and more just feels so magical. Here’s more info about the bag charms pictured above:
Alegra Enameled Charm Keychain. Urban Outfitters. $10
Here Kitty Kitty Cat Purse Charm. Lenora Dame Studio. $36
Happy Little Things Bag Charm. Bettina H. Designs. $85
Icon Pearl Bag Charm. Anthropologie. $38
Friendship Swag Charm. Free People. $38
5. This Tarot Deck!
Weiser/Red Wheel sent me the newly released Tarot Disassembled deck by Jennifer Cooper Steidley, and it’s such a clever and cool concept. I shared a video of it with my thoughts on Instagram.
It essentially depicts each tarot card as illustrated in the traditional Rider Waite Smith tarot deck as a collage of symbols. It’s so cool to see the symbolism of each card broken down in this way and to compare and track patterns across cards that we may not hae noticed before. Steidley also wrote an in-depth guide book for the deck, sold separately. Plus, it’s just visually stunning, don’t you think!?
6. This show!
A murder mystery plus Uzo Aduba plus bird watching. Need I say more? The Residence is a lovely little show on Netflix that really lets Aduba’s quirky humor shine. She’s one of the celebrities I would love to be friends with in real life. (Who would be on your list?)
Plus, funnily enough, bird-watching made it onto my previous Whimsical Wednesday list before I started this show! We were meant to be.
May you find some enchantment in each day and some whimsy in each week, tarot bestie.
Always,
Annie
Whimsical Wednesdays always get me! Ugh. I have acquired many Whimsical Wednesday things. 😂 Yes to that Tarot Deck! And yes to charms EVERYWHERE…only I find it fun to MAKE and collect ones I find and put them on things…all kinds of things, bags, journals, etc. Any kind of trinket is a thing for me tbh. I will check out that show. But yes to Bird Watching…compliments of Amy Tan’s Bird Chronicles book. My hobbies just hit a new level (old lady status if my children describe it) when my binoculars arrived literally four days ago. Great Whimsical Wednesday….these are definitely a highlight of my week and I look forward to them for sure. 🔥❤️
