In the traditional Rider Waite Smith tarot deck, the radiant Queen of Wands sits on a radiant throne, holding a radiant sunflower, wearing a radiant gown, with her radiant face beneath her radiant crown.

Perhaps this is why my gaze is so often pulled to what appears to be an unfortunate patch of spilled ink at the bottom of this otherwise immaculate card.

A black splotch.

A black smudge.

A black stain on an otherwise radiant depiction of perfection.

Much ink has been spilled on the little black cat in the Queen of Wands. And here I am about to spill even more.

(So much, in fact, that this newsletter is Part 1 of 2!)
