Your September Tarotscopes Are Here!
Plus, two questions to ask your tarot deck to go even deeper
What a rare treat for a new calendar month and a new moon (The Virgo New Moon is on 9/2 to be exact) to coincide so closely! Let’s dive right in, tarot bestie!
In case you are new to my monthly tarotscopes, here are a few things to know:
First, while I am not a fortune-teller, I do believe in the synchronicity and magical timing of tarot wisdom, especially in trusted and like-minded communities like ours. So I am confident there will be a nugget of wisdom or resonance somewhere in here for all of us.
Second, as a staunch believer in reading tarot for ourselves, I have included two tarot questions with each tarotscope so you can consult your own tarot deck and get an even more personalized message. Because collective readings can only go so far in my humble opinion. This month, these have been taken from my deck of tarot questions, Inquire Within: A Companion Deck of Daily Tarot Questions.
And third, the tarot cards pictured this month are from the oh-so-thoughtful and oh-so-whimsical Every Little Thing You Do Is Magic Tarot deck by Callie Little and Moorea Seal. If this tarot deck speaks to you, do yourself a favor and opt for their interactive tarot guide and workbook as well!
To check what the energy in September might look like for you, scroll down until you see your sign. Whether you check for your sun sign, moon sign, or rising sign is up to you. Whatever you decide (hell, check all three!), I am sure your intuition will not lead you astray. And don’t forget to
Without further ado, here are your September tarotscopes!
Virgo | The Hermit (Aug. 23 - Sept. 22)
Your tarot card for September: Queen of Wands
I once got a one-card reading from my friend
about my creative rut, and this Queen came up. The interpretation in that context is what I’m reminded of now: Perhaps you are your work of art. If we are feeling confused, uninspired, or creatively blocked, how can we turn our focus onto our inner radiance and become a canvas ourselves? This Queen feels natural and authentic in the spotlight. How are you being called to take center stage this month, Virgo? It is the season of you, after all!Tarot questions to help you dive deeper: How can I be more open to my authentic self? How can I let my inner light shine brighter this month?
Libra | Justice (Sept. 23 - Oct. 22)
Your tarot card for September: 5 of Swords reversed
The Five of Swords is a challenging card because it calls for us to walk the fine line between standing up for our values, which is essential, and being self-righteous, which is annoying. When this card comes out reversed, it might be asking us if we have perhaps lost sight of the bigger picture in some realm or arena of our lives. Are we clinging to views or positions that might actually be causing us more stress than reward? Do we want to be right, or do we want to have peace?
Tarot questions to help you dive deeper: How can I see the bigger picture this month? How can I respond with love?
Scorpio | Death (Oct. 23 - Nov. 21)
Your tarot card for September: Six of Pentacles
This Minor Arcana card is a card of generosity and paying it forward. As we approach the season of bounty and harvest, the Six of Pentacles asks us to recognize the riches that surround us and reminds us that we actually multiply our abundance by sharing generously with others. The trick to this, of course, is figuring out the comfortable ways we can give with love and without expecting anything in return. Because that’s when charity quickly devolves into resentment, which we certainly don’t want.
Tarot questions to help you dive deeper: How can I be generous with others this month? How can I view the world through the eyes of love?
Sagittarius | Temperance (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21)
Your tarot card for September: Two of Wands
Last month’s tarotscope had you heeding the Fool’s call to adventure, Sag. This month, the Two of Wands gets us down to brass tacks and crafting a plan that will make that adventure a practical reality. There are two key parts to planning effectively: first, getting clear on our vision and really refining the end result we want, and then breaking the path down into smaller steps that will get us there. Brew a fresh pot of coffee, dig out a blank notebook, and get planning! Big things await!
Tarot questions to help you dive deeper: What goal can I work toward this month? What seed can I plant today for a better tomorrow?
Capricorn | The Devil (Dec. 22 - Jan. 19)
Your tarot card for September: Knight of Pentacles
The energy of this Knight echos the Two of Wands that came out for Sagittarius, your zodiac neighbor, this month! This Knight is our planner and the master of our day-to-day. If there is some big vision, dream, or project on your horizon that seems just out of reach, the Knight of Pentacles urges us to break it down into manageable chunks that are easier to tackle. Once we do that, all we have to concern ourselves with is the very next step in the chain. It’s when we forget this totally doable process and start skipping ahead and trying to work on all things at once that we psyche ourselves out and get in our own way.
Tarot questions to help you dive deeper: What might help me be productive this month? How can I boost my energy and motivation?
Aquarius | The Star (Jan. 20 - Feb. 18)
Your tarot card for September: King of Swords
This is such an underrated court card, in my humble opinion. The King of Swords is a man of compromise, another underrated skill these days. This King is committed to listening and understanding as much as he can and as often as he can. At the same time, he honors his boundaries and is not afraid to clearly and effectively communicate when they are being crossed. This clarity and directness actually helps him connect with others. After all, when we communicate our boundaries, we are letting people know that we want to keep them in our lives! Otherwise, we’d just cut them off and not bother. Keep that in mind next time you hesitate to let someone know what you need because you don’t want to be awkward or insulting.
Tarot questions to help you dive deeper: How can I connect with others this month? How can I hold stronger boundaries?
Pisces | The Moon (Feb. 19 - March 20)
Your tarot card for September: Three of Cups
This Three of Cups is giving major cheerleader energy, Pisces. It asks us how we can focus on showing love and appreciation for our friends and helping them shine and celebrate their wins. Sensitive and introspective Pisces can sometimes run the risk of becoming too self-absorbed, even if it’s for the sake of self-improvement. Sometimes the best thing to do is just give ourselves a break by blending into the crowd and hiding in the wings. Plus, showing up for others with encouragement and a smile (and some balloons or flowers or an obnoxiously punny home-made sign, whatever) is great practice for the loving and supportive way we should be showing up for ourselves as well!
Tarot questions to help you dive deeper: How can I express kindness this month? How can I help or support others?
Aries | The Emperor (March 21 - April 19)
Your tarot card for September: Page of Pentacles
This attentive Page asks us to pay attention to our small habits and daily rituals or routines. Specifically, which of them boost our energy, and which tend to zap our energy, leaving us feeling depleted? We often think that changing “bad” habits is a matter of discipline, which it certainly can be. But quite often, it’s a matter of recognizing that a habit has even formed in the first place. Only when we mindfully start noticing, like the Page of Pentacles, can we start to connect the dots between our actions and tendencies and the way we feel as a result. So get curious this month, Aries, and see what you notice day to day!
Tarot questions to help you dive deeper: How can I get out of my own way? How can I practice self-care this month?
Taurus | The Hierophant (April 20 - May 20)
Your tarot card for September: Nine of Pentacles
One of my college students works at Starbucks, and he eagerly showed me a photo he took of the longest drink label he’s gotten so far. You know, those ridiculously customized orders with all the add-ons and specifications and extras? While we are quick to poo-poo such things as unnecessarily high-maintenance, a tarot card like the Nine of Pentacles has me second-guessing this evaluation, at least in some circumstances. This Minor Arcana card encourages us to luxuriate in our lives, to let ourselves be fussy and particular, to take pride in the fact that we know what we want and how we want it and we are worth holding others to that standard as long as we aren’t being jerks about it. You deserve to treat yourself, Taurus! What might that look like for you this month?
Tarot questions to help you dive deeper: How can I accept love this month? How can I be generous with myself?
Gemini | The Lovers (May 21 - June 20)
Your tarot card for September: Death
The Death card not so gently lets us know that it’s time to let go of something that is causing unnecessary clutter in our lives, which more often than not is something intangible, like a belief, a story, or a painful memory. Unfortunately, this tarot card doesn’t come with instructions. Just how does one “let go” or “release” something intangible? And how do you know when you’ve done it? Death might be an act of finality in reality, but in the tarot, it’s a much more ongoing process, and it’s okay to fumble through it for awhile. Setting an honest intention to release what no longer serves is an important first step. The following steps will make themselves known if we remain open and trust the process.
Tarot questions to help you dive deeper: How can I create space this month for new and better things? What thoughts or beliefs might be holding me back?
Cancer | The Chariot (June 21 - July 22)
Your tarot card for September: The Empress
I don’t know about you, Cancer, but the Empress card can be a bit of a challenge for a doer like me. This relaxed, in-flow-with-the-Universe archetype is such a powerful call to stop doing. To simply pause and receive the wisdom and inspiration our intuition is attempting to channel if our egos and bodies can be still long enough to allow it to come through. In fact, the Empress seems to be calling for a mindset shift more than anything else. In what area of our lives could we use a reframe or shift in perspective? How might we start viewing the occurrences of our day as things happening for us rather than to us, for example? Where do we need to power off a bit and reset with a slightly new approach?
Tarot questions to help you dive deeper: How can I relax and relinquish control? How can I align with the Universe this month?
Leo | Strength (July 23 - Aug. 22)
Your tarot card for September: King of Pentacles
The King of Pentacles is a signal of bounty and abundance, a wonderful omen to see as harvest season approaches. This court card invites us to recognize and enjoy the bounty all around us. In fact, I’ll add to that the invitation to acknowledge the riches within us as well that often go unnoticed: our resilience, our commitment, our courage, our sense of humor. Expressing gratitude for all that we have is a potent spell: it ensures that the Universe keeps sending us even more wonderful things, which in turn gives us even more potent fuel to keep the magic spell going.
Tarot questions to help you dive deeper: How can I adopt an abundance mindset this month? How can I express gratitude and appreciation?
Do you have any plans for the Virgo New Moon this week? I have narrowed down a list of intentions I want to set in some kind of new moon ritual that I have yet to finalize, so I am open to inspiration!
Have a beautiful week and month ahead. Can’t wait to hear from you!
