Happy almost May, tarot friend! I am shamelessly counting down the days until the end of the spring semester. This professor needs a break! How are you feeling after all the astrological madness of this month? Are you ready for a month of calm growth and joyful abundance? Then, on we go!
Here are a few things about my monthly tarotscopes if you are new here:
First, while I am not a fortune-teller, I do believe in the synchronicity and magical timing of tarot wisdom, especially in trusted and like-minded communities like ours. So I am confident there will be a nugget of wisdom or resonance somewhere in here for all of us.
Second, as a staunch believer in reading tarot for ourselves, I have included two tarot questions with each tarotscope so you can consult your own tarot deck and get an even more personalized message. This month’s questions are inspired by my Inquire Within deck of daily tarot questions.
And third, the tarot deck featured this month (I choose a different one for each month’s tarotscopes - so feel free to browse previous months if you are in need of some deck inspo!) is The Relative Tarot by Carrie Paris and published by Weiser Books. It is a beautiful, thoughtful, and complex deck and guidebook combo in the best way, so do check it out if you like the cards you see in this newsletter!
To check what the energy in May might look like for you, scroll down until you see your sign. Whether you check for your sun sign, moon sign, or rising sign is up to you. Whatever you decide (hell, check all three!), I am sure your intuition will not lead you astray.
Without further ado, here are your May tarotscopes!
Taurus | The Hierophant (April 20 - May 20)
Your tarot card for May: Two of Cups
When this card shows up in a tarot reading, it’s shining a light on our social connections and relationships. While many hastily assume the Two of Cups points to a romantic relationship, that’s not always what this Minor Arcana card means. At its core, the Two of Cups is about opening ourselves up to other people in a way that can foster meaningful partnership. What relationship in your life might you have been neglecting lately that could use some more quality time and attention from you, Taurus? Or, is there a potential new relationship on your radar - whether romantic, platonic, or even professional - that you would like to see blossom?
Tarot questions to help you dive deeper: How can I express kindness this month? How can I help or support others?
Gemini | The Lovers (May 21 - June 20)
Your tarot card for May: Eight of Pentacles Reversed
This reversal is a bit tricky, Gemini. Why? Because this Minor Arcana card doesn’t give me clearly positive or negative vibes, which makes the interpretation of the reversal even more full of ambiguity. On the one hand, the plentiful work depicted in the Eight of Pentacles may be a wonderful thing: Finally, a slew of clients lining up at the proverbial door of your coaching business, for example! On the other hand, maybe it’s the endless stack of student essays that forces you to put off more enjoyable activities because these need to get done first. The reversal seems to be inviting an audit of our workload this month. What jobs might be taking too much of our time without offering a proportional return on investment? How can we reinvest our energy accordingly?
Tarot questions to help you dive deeper: What might help me be productive this month? What can I take off my plate?
Cancer | The Chariot (June 21 - July 22)
Your tarot card for May: Queen of Swords
The Queen of Swords reminds me of a boss or a leader, perhaps even a parent, who finds themselves realizing that being respected is more important than being liked. When this court card shows up in a tarot reading, we are being invited to step into the confident and assertive energy of this Queen. Is there something you’ve been wanting to communicate with someone in particular for awhile, or perhaps share with the world more generally? How can we remind ourselves that our unique experiences and perspectives are valuable and that our voice matters?
Tarot questions to help you dive deeper: How can I speak my truth this month? How can I hold stronger boundaries?
Leo | Strength (July 23 - Aug. 22)
Your tarot card for May: Ten of Pentacles
The Ten of Pentacles often shows up when we’re having some kind of full-circle moment in terms of lineage, childhood, or family traditions. Perhaps you find yourself at the age of a parent when they experienced a pivotal life change, or maybe you are now in a position to make a different decision or take a different path than the one your ancestors chose (or honor their wisdom by carrying the torch and doing precisely the same). If childhood memories, whether difficult or pleasant, seem to be surfacing for you this month, Leo, try to see what triggers them and what informative and encouraging messages your inner child may be trying to communicate.
Tarot questions to help you dive deeper: What does my inner child need most this month? How can I lead by example?
Virgo | The Hermit (Aug. 23 - Sept. 22)
Your tarot card for May: Page of Pentacles
One of my favorite pages, the Page of Pentacles is a practical yet open-minded explorer. More particularly, Virgo, this Page seems to be asking us to seek how we can more deeply explore our current life circumstances and surroundings. One of my favorite things to do is be a tourist in my own city, for example. I take a scenic route or go to a sight-seeing destination that locals often “don’t have time for” and take in my surroundings with what I like to call “new eyes.” What can you invest even just a little bit of time or energy into this month to breathe a sense of novelty, inspiration, and even education into your life?
Tarot questions to help you dive deeper: How can I approach life creatively this month? In what can I find beauty?
Libra | Justice (Sept. 23 - Oct. 22)
Your tarot card for May: King of Pentacles
Two Kings two months in a row, Libra! Last month, you were being invited to take on the balanced, mediating energy of the King of Swords. This month’s King focuses less on nurturing the human resources in your life and more on cultivating the financial ones. Maybe you’re up for a promotion or a higher visibility position that will open more doors for you in the future. Whatever the circumstances may be, the King of Pentacles invites us to be a forward-looking, future-thinking leader who knows how to feather their nest and manifest their visions of abundance and security. How can you follow their lead this month?
Tarot questions to help you dive deeper: How can I adopt an abundance mindset this month? What seed can I plant today for a better tomorrow?
Scorpio | Death (Oct. 23 - Nov. 21)
Your tarot card for May: Judgment
This Major Arcana card is often confused with Justice due to its name, but what the Judgment card is really about is a reckoning of sorts - a coming home to oneself and finding a sense of purpose and belonging. It’s such a beautiful and powerful card, Scorpio, and it indicates a time in our lives when we come to some major realizations about what we want to do, who we want to surround ourselves with, and what really will matter to us at the end of our lives. When Judgment shows up in a tarot reading, we are being invited to pay attention to what feels profoundly aligned for us and where we feel our place is in this world.
Tarot questions to help you dive deeper: What lesson am I being invited to learn this month? How can I see the bigger picture?
Sagittarius | Temperance (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21)
Your tarot card for May: Eight of Cups
This tarot card showing up around this time of the year makes perfect sense to me as an educator - the academic year is almost over and we have JUST ABOUT HAD IT with everybody and everything. But I digress! More generally, the Eight of Cups shows up when we have a strong urge to step back from our social obligations and take some time for ourselves. And this isn’t always necessarily because people can be annoying and just, you know, generally the worst. It could be because we have seen something important - and perhaps not particularly pleasant - about ourselves in a challenging relationship and we now need some time to gently reflect and figure out how to show up in a way that feels better to us.
Tarot questions to help you dive deeper: What emotions are trying to surface this month? How can I be more generous with myself?
Capricorn | The Devil (Dec. 22 - Jan. 19)
Your tarot card for May: Six of Wands
The focus of this tarot card this month seems to be mutual networks of support and celebration, Capricorn. The Six of Wands is a victorious card, and more specifically, it shows a triumph or joyous occasion the entire community can celebrate. What can we do to channel this energy of mutual joy and support this month? Perhaps we can put ourselves out there in a scary but also exciting way with our work, trusting that there’s an audience waiting for our unique insights. Or maybe it’s a time to insert ourselves into new crowds and spaces, even if that makes us nervous, in an effort to find “our people.”
Tarot questions to help you dive deeper: How can I connect with others this month? Where can I find support?
Aquarius | The Star (Jan. 20 - Feb. 18)
Your tarot card for May: The World
Does it feel like all eyes are on you this month, Aquarius? The World is personally one of my favorite cards because it encourages me but challenges me in important ways at the same time. When this tarot card shows up, it often signals a triumphant and victorious time - one in which we are making progress with our work, finally getting some recognition for our efforts, or perhaps even starting a new role or life change that will herald a whole new hero’s journey for us. The challenge here is to be able to bask in the positive attention we’ve worked so hard for but remain grounded and true to ourselves as the scope or nature of our work changes with the up-leveling.
Tarot questions to help you dive deeper: How can I lean into my strengths this month? How can I be more open to my authentic self?
Pisces | The Moon (Feb. 19 - March 20)
Your tarot card for May: The Hierophant
This Major Arcana card seems to be signaling a magical and potentially life-altering time, Pisces. The Hierophant explores the big, spiritual questions of life and is not afraid to stop what they are doing, gaze off in the distance, and yell, “What does it all mean!?” Do you find yourself questioning your broader world views and perspectives, or even just the lens through which you encounter mundane, everyday life? This might be a good time to go down that mystical, magical rabbit hole that may have been tugging at your curiosity for awhile now. The Hierophant asks, how can we expand our knowledge of the world and, in so doing, help others who are on a similar path?
Tarot questions to help you dive deeper: What path does my intuition want me to follow this month? How can I align with the Universe?
Aries | The Emperor (March 21 - April 19)
Your tarot card for May: Ace of Cups Reversed
When the Ace of Cups shows up reversed, I almost always take it to mean we are entering a period of self-reflection and improving our relationship with ourselves. How might you be called to take the open-hearted, flowing energy of this Ace inward and direct that same love and compassion to yourself this month, Aries? Importantly, this isn’t a card of solitude or a non-social phase, like the Hermit or the Eight of Cups might indicate. It is just a reminder that we are worthy of the same patience, tenderness, and understanding we often are so willing to give to others.
Tarot questions to help you dive deeper: How can I show myself love this month? What is it time to forgive?
Let me know which of your tarotscopes resonated most with you this month - your sun, moon, or rising sign. The message for my Gemini rising really spoke to me this month!
And if you further personalized your tarotscope by answering the additional questions with your own tarot deck, let me know how it went!
Until next week,
Annie
I love the Six of Wands for us Caps! ♥
I'm seriously considering throwing myself in the art community over on Twitter as an active participant and not just as the passive bystander enjoying the beautiful drawings of all the talented artists. So this is really encouraging, because starting to draw digitally means to invest in an iPad to be able to use Procreate and practice a whole lot, which will be hard, because I can get demotivated quickly if I don't see any progress fast enough. ^^°
Plus, I got the opportunity to try drawing on the iPad of a friend today and my lines were hella wonky, so I'll have to majorly adjust my expectations, they always make it look so easy in the tutorials. xD
The Eight of Pentacles reversed came up for me in a Belatane reading I did for myself yesterday. I can't believe I'm gonna say this, but there was some comfort in the ambiguity even fluidity to it so we can be flexible to the situation.
